- Reviewed in the United States on August 24, 2011Martine Rothblatt's Apartheid of Sex, published in 1995, is the foundational text of the emerging Gender Rights movement. This book is an updated, second edition of the original. If you are not yet a Transhumanist, you may find the new material, which extends Martine's presentation beyond Transgender issues, to enter unfamiliar territory.
This will be recognized in the New Age as one of the most important books of the past century leading to the reformation of human society. Its prophetic vision is comparable to Theodore Sturgeon's much earlier (1960) Venus Plus X, which is fiction. This book is NOT FICTION.
I unflinchingly say that every person on earth should read and contemplate the message of this volume. Here you will find, elaborated in complete social, legal, and engineering detail, how a new, ethical, society of true equality can be built on the bones of our presently decayed one.
Most of the text of this book has been on-line for the past year or two. Simply Google the two words Transgender and Transhuman in the same query. The on-line version contains many graphics and illustrations that, while not required to understand the text, lighten the reading experience. Since the web publication is in the form of an extended blog, the printed book is easier to read and more complete.
This book is a must read for anyone who cares to seriously understand the critical factors driving the future of human social and personally directed evolution.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 14, 2023Author misrepresents the feminist movement, when he's mentioning it at all. Very anti woman, yet appropriated ideas from them and twists them. Very negative on the life force as a world view.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 6, 2011I quite enjoyed this book. It made excellent argument and backed them up well. It was informative and interesting and inspiring.
However, my enjoyment (and my five star rating) of this book are held back by some rather serious issues with formatting. I don't know if they came about during the transition from the paper to digital formats, but throughout the book, there are a number of points where sections of text are randomly moved out of their proper place and to the bottom of the paragraph. Usually, if you're good with words, you can still figure out how to piece it together, but if I were to redo this purchase, I'd probably go for a hard copy. I may still get a hard copy one of these days, but I'll have to see it in person.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 11, 2011Rothblatt has taken a deep journey into contemporary and future concepts of gender identity, species identity, and the transmorality that must accompany this new world. The book makes it clear that outdated definitions of and the emerging fluidness of "human-being" and "human-behavior" must be accompanied by a morality that allows us to retain the essence of what it has meant and will mean to be a moral being.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 14, 2021cultish, but recommended to read if you want to read the origins of the transgender craze today
this book should be see as conspiracy theory

- Reviewed in the United States on September 26, 2017The date on this is 2011; the original Apartheid of Sex was published in 1995. But honestly, the text should have been more thoroughly updated for 2011. Some of the language is already outdated for that time, as are some facts, e.g. the mention of Bowers v. Hardwick (1986) as the latest relevant decision on the subject of sodomy laws in the US (overturned in 2003's Lawrence v. Texas). It's still an interesting read, and some of this would have been groundbreaking in 1995, though I'm not sure which parts date from that year. As it is, I'd like to see another update in the context of even more "sex-blind marriage", the greater acceptance and current controversies regarding transgender people, non-binary people (i.e. the reality and current vocabulary behind some of the sex/gender possibilities Rothblatt describes), and where things might go from here on the transgender and transhuman fronts. Perhaps Rothblatt isn't the person to write that book, but I'd appreciate something similar from a similar mind, just looking ahead from 2017 instead of 1995 with uneven/incomplete 2011 updates.

1.0 out of 5 stars Garbage
I had a a long detailed review as to why this book is horrible for humanity, but was told that it did not comply with guidelines. I provided specific examples of why that is, using direct comments from the authour. I also provided a photo of the book proving that I bought it. It may be time to cancel my Amazon subscription if something so direct and truthful can be silenced.
Read 10 pages into this snake oil and see for yourself.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is a game changer
A cutting edge, ground breaking manifesto from a genius, Martine Rothblatt turns how we're socialised to see gender on it's head, and argues that the binary division of male/female at birth is inherently discriminatory and has been used as a tool for the persecution of half of humanity for thousands of years. She argues that gender is far more complex and we would be better served if we used colours on a infinite spectrum to describe our gender. Mrs Rothblatt then insightfully explores the possibility of human minds uploaded as avatars and virtual beings, and argues that these new immortal humans will face the same discrimination in the future that every minority group has faced previously, and that we must break through our tendencies to divide humanity up if we are going to have a united future as a species. Indeed, what is human? That category has become broader with each passing decade. Thank you Martine for producing this wonderful book, for giving me the courage to not only make a stand as a transgender pre-everything male, but to consider electronic minds as my brothers and sisters, no less deserving of rights or love. Humanity needs more people like you.

1.0 out of 5 stars The era of insanity.
Many would say Rothblatt comes over as the completely mad and dangerous scientist. His 'vision' is already taking effect and having a devastating/dangerous effect on women and girls (or 'people with a vagina' as he calls them). Women/girls are being subjected to fully intact biological men calling themselves 'women' in changing/locker rooms, sport, dormitories etc and now rapists are declaring themselves 'women' and being housed in female prisons. He refers to 'dumb biology' which is the height of arrogance considering dimorphic mammals have successfully reproduced for billions of years. Yes, women/girls have been oppressed for thousands of years in many cultures but it is that that needs changing not the definition of men/males and women/females. Confused and gay/lesbian children are now being sterilised because of his vision/mantra that one can choose their sex prompting the biggest medical scandal in history. Because of his wealth he has influenced just about every government and organisation on the planet - WPATH, WHO, UN, UNESCO, WEF, NGOs etc etc - changing laws and policies without the consent of the populace and introduced draconian laws if people do not comply - think Orwell's 1984 and Huxley's Brave New World. There is much more that could be said but it will be looked back upon as a dark time in humanity. The era of insanity.
